camping area RV10-CAMPERVANS-MOTORHOMES PARKING 25px The 22 camp sites at Hamelin each consist of a grassed area suitable for tents (up to 6m x 4m floor area) and swags and an adjacent space to park one vehicle. The adjacent parking space is suitable for one small campervan (up to 6m x 3m).

RC4N-NO CARAVANS 25px Caravans, camper trailers and large campervans/mobile homes are not suitable.  Chuditch and Quenda camping areas at Conto cater for this type of camping equipment.

Each camp site features a fire ring with a barbecue plate and hook for a billy, and a picnic table and benches.

Campfires are usually permitted, in the provided fire rings only, between April 15 and November 30, but fire restrictions may be imposed at any time and without notice.

When fire restrictions are in place fires must not be lit and any appliance powered by burning solid fuel must not be used. You must always comply with any instructions at campgrounds and parks.

Campers´ own liquid or gas fuel barbecues, stoves and heaters can be used at any time, unless a total fire ban has been declared (see Department of Fire and Emergency Services ).

BOOKING & PAYMENT

Booking can be made up to 180 days (approximately six months) before arrival for up to 18 persons and up to three camp sites. Payment in full for all campers is required at the time of booking.

Bookings for school groups cannot be made online. Contact us to enquire about availability, prices and conditions.

Access to the coast & Ngari Capes Marine Park

A sandy track suitable for 2WD vehicles leads from the campground to a number of places with limited parking and foot-only access to beaches and rocky shores and the Cape Freycinet Sanctuary Zone of Ngari Capes Marine Park. Fishing is not permitted - look but don`t take. Conto Spring, at approximately 4km, is the nearest access.

Boranup Forest

The tall karris of Boranup Forest lie immediately to the south of the campground. Access the forest´s bush walk and mountain bike trails and scenic lookouts by vehicle on the unsealed Boranup Drive (not suitable for vehicles with low ground clearance) or on foot via the Cape to Cape Track.

There is a scenic lookout at Karri Corner on Caves Road (sealed).

RA7-CAVE Caves

Calgardup and Giants caves, off Caves Road, are unlit caves offering self-guided tours. Torch and helmet hire is included in the entry fee. Calgardup, 6km from the campground (turn north on Caves Road) is open 9.00am to 4.15pm every day except Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Giants is 3.5km from the campground (south on Caves Road) and is open 9.30am to 3.30pm long weekends and school holidays.

Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park features a number of other tourist and adventure caves suitable for access by visitors with a range of abilities and experience.

RW7-BUSHWALKING TRAIL Cape to Cape Track

The Cape to Cape walk track passes very close to the campground. Along its 125km route between capes Naturaliste and Leeuwin along the coast and through Boranup Forest it offers opportunities for short, half-, whole- and multi-day walks for those with a range of capabilities and experience.

The stunning beaches, cliffs, coastal scenery, caves, forests, lush rolling hills of the area and Western Australia´s longest river provide a host of opportunities for bushwalking, swimming, snorkelling, diving, caving, rock climbing and kayaking. Amongst the many highlights are world-renowned surf breaks and the appearance of humpback whales very close to shore on their annual migration.

Fishing is subject to Department of Fisheries regulations and in Ngari Capes Marine Park, permitted only in appropriate zones.

Tours and other services

A large number of operators are licensed to provide tour services.

Margaret River is the largest of a number of places in the region where food, fuel and other services are available.

Strong coastal winds and heavy surf can be a danger to visitors. The limestone of the coast is prone to collapse. Beaches are unpatrolled. Observe all warning signs in the park. Follow the advice on Surf Life Saving Australia`s Beachsafe website. Check tide predictions and weather warnings with the Bureau of Meteorology.

Rock fishing can be espacailly hazardous - go to recfishwest´s website for guidance on safety.

Access is entirely via sealed road. Roads within the campground are not sealed

ARRIVING AND DEPARTING

Register on arrival at the entry station. (Use the self-registration station if the entry is unstaffed).

Set up camp from 12pm (noon) and clear the site by 10am on the day of departure.
